Porche price?

R175 000.00 for an original Porche 356 cabrio (1961).

I'm in the process of getting more information on this car.
Faults: Golf GTI motor was fitted.

Do you think that is a fair price?

This seems to me to be too good to be true, so I'll have to wait and see if I get the information from a friend who claims to know where this car is for sale.

Thx for the compliment Paul :D
Mario Yes that sounds to good to be true, but it's not impossible to get lucky when it comes to barn finds. Do you know the condition of the car, rust ? Is it a LHD or a RHD and does it have papers ? The Engine is not a big deal, depends on whether they cut to make the golf motor fit. Not sure why anyone would do that with an original cabrio.
You welcome to give me a call . If you want to I'll go and look at the car with you and tell you what I think.

Thanks for the answers, I still need to get a lot more information.
We were talking about vw cars and aircooleds in particular Saturday when a friend mentioned this car at a garrage in the NW.
He will now supposedly send me the details of the garrage name etc so that I can have a look.

Here's hoping

This sounds like a Over priced Glass Fiber Replica

That was my first reaction too, yet he says he checked and its all metal.

BUT, I'm not getting my hopes up. He might be confusing an early 911 with the 356.

I doubt that this is a replica.......99% of the people that have one sprout off 1956 as a year of build........being a 61 it is a newer one though.

Good point. A 1961 is a 356 B . Looking at the nose is the easiest to tell. Replica's are mainly made from 356 A. If one can see the car or picture of it , it will help.

Even if it is a B, as long as it's rot free, it can be a good deal. A pic will do wonders.......

There is a guy in PTA who has one or two Industrial engines, so a motor really isn't a concern...

A 356 B roadster or cabrio is worth more than a million these days. If it has rust it's worth less, but still well worth getting for the right price. Very few around. As Blitz said, the engine is the least of your worries. We bought a Convertible D two weeks ago , so it's not impossible to find these treasures and believe me a barn find like that makes me smile for days.

Sooooo NO

It's not an original. Bugger, as usual, was 100% correct.

Finally got some pics and spoke to the owner. It's a speedster replica built on an original 356 chassis - that's where all the confusion came from.

Price was dropped to R99 900.00

Contact details are:

Rustenburg NW

Yellow Stone Auto
0145927394/5

Somehow I should have known it's too good to be true. The owner is perfectly aware what an original is worth! :(
Feel free to contact them, I'm not interested.

Oh well that confirm the thought we all had.Sorry. Keep looking and as I said it's not impossible to come across these barn finds. If you want to I'll find you an 356 coupe or early 911.

Looking at that last picture, I can pretty much say that it's not a replica built on an orignal body. But a full blown replica like all the others out there.

Handbrake lever is a dead giveaway. Plus............erm isn't the 356 a unibody? It's not the same as a beetle. Maybe I'm wrong though. If the center channel is round like a beetles and not flat and square then it's deff not, just can't see it from the pics though.
