Shocks and wheel alignment?

's up all?
My bus needs new shocks...
I've now been to Speedy and Hi-Q and both of them, without me asking, quoted me for shocks AND wheel alignment.
Now as I understand it, my shocks have bugger-all to do with the wheel alignment...
Am I missing something or are they just trying to screw me out of my cash
I'd rather buy 4 shocks from Midas or some such place and fit them myself.
Cheers, N.

It's a good idea to have your alignment checked regularly.
But since there is only one adjustment on a bus (toe-in) you can very easily DIY.
Follow the procedure in the Idiot's Guide. Basically you use two x one metre rules to set toe-in at 2mm. It takes five minutes.

The w/a was checked not so long ago...
Right, 4 shocks from Midas it is.
Any recommended shocks Fig?
I'll have to check details on that toe-in with you when I see you, Fig.
Thanks, N.

Not too sure about a bus but VW used to have different std shocks for front and rear the rears were stiffer Some pirates are same front and rear and make the bus ride hard
An old trick is to put the old rears up front and just buy new for the rear
The reason they quoted on wheel alignment is that most modern cars have the suspension so set up that it requires adjustment for the replacement of shock absorbers

You've just answered my next question Armand...
I was quoted on 4 Gabriel's from Midas, all of which had the same part number, while the Armstrongs had two part numbers.
I bought the front Armstrongs, and have ordered the rear.
Thanks, N.
