64 Split

On 29 February 2012, I celebrated a huge step in my bus' life with the following message:

My old 1964 split screen VW kombi bus was put on the back of a flat bed today and taken to a local panel beater for an extreme makeover - in about 3 months from now it will be fully restored to it's former glory. Stock standard ...in showroom condition. Today is a very good day.

I will post pictures of the progress from time to time

Deon

WOW !!! I would love to know the chassis number of your bus. It is the same colour as my bus was. Yours is the 3rd 10 seater bus I have come across with that green and white colour combination. Did it come with all the seats (including the jump seat on the side). Where/who is the panel beater, would like to have a good look at it Deon.
Does it still have the original interior panels, and if so please take pics before you recover or paint them, etc, etc.
What colour are you going to have it painted? Do you still have to wait 3 months or has it been in for a while now ? Sorry for all the questions
Shot for the post :hangloose:

Thanks for posting and making a turn at my place today Deon. :hangloose:
I'll see if I can go check it out on Monday.

Some more pics please. :D

Deon may probably make use of these panels from my donor bus to repair those wheel arches.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate the interest! In response to some of the questions raised:

- the rear wheel arches were butchered by the last owner to accommodate some shite mags and fat wheels ... Sean will hopefully help me out there
- the roof is also in a very bad condition ... will need to make a plan there
- the paintwork that you see on the first pic is very deceiving which I painted (with a brush) in order to get a view on what the Mango Green will look like
- the interior is non existent, so it needs to be rebuilt from scratch to original spec i.e. 10 seater with rear benches facing each other (hint hint)
- the car is at Leon's Panelbeaters in the Strand. I will be taking more pics tomorrow and will post (it is now down to raw metal in most places)
- still a lot to do but worth it all the way ... I want to restore to former glory

Cheers for now

One more thing that I failed to mention:

- as much as I like the mango green and white combo, I am thinking of doing it in chestnut brown and ivory white ... these are both standard colours from back in the day

I need to correct my last post

- chestnut brown (L73)
and
- lotus white (L282) i.e. not IVORY WHITE

As promised, more pics. Visited Leon's Panel beaters earlier today. As you can see most of the exterior is down to raw metal. Roof in a very bad condition ... does anyone know of a donor bus with a great roof that I can use? Will hopefully be able to convince Sean to donate me his rear wheel arches to remedy the butchered arches.

One step at a time :hangloose:
