Hi All,
I found a bit of a gem.
Still need to find out what year model it is and see what spares are needed.
I need to now go and collect and bring her back home.
Depending on what spares I will require will set the tone on what I will do with the car when its back with me.
It currently does not have a gearbox but there I am sorted as I do have a spare box, I will have to change the end casing to make the box fit.
Biggest problem now is because its not a rolling chasse I need to make a plan to get the car to my place in Centurion.
See some of the pics of the Car:

So today the transaction for the car was concluded.
I when and had a look at the car in person and I was very happy with the condition of the car. The car has 2 miner dents on the right front fender and on the bonnet. Only rust that I could spot was on the lip of the roof on the right hand side but no holes just rust.
The car does have semaphores but sadly they have been removed so I will have to replace them.
I will be collecting the car this Saturday and bringing it home.
The car is either a 56 or a 58 and it has the small tail lights as well as the gear system window winders and not the race track window winders. Judging by the rear window and the louvers under the rear window I think it is a 58
Maybe someone can assist me with the following info:
Model: VW, Serial Number: 2280037, Paint Code: F
I did not get the Chasse serial number as yet:
Plate with serial number:
Built in South Africa – In Suid Afrika Gebou
By- Deur
SOUTH AFRICAN MOTOR ASSEMBLERS & DISTREIBUTORS LTD
UITENHAGE, CP
I was so exited when I was looking at the car I forgot to take pictures

, only on the way back to PTA did I realise that I did not take any new pics.
WIll have to make up for it on Saterday

The big windows only started for the 58 model year, so not a 56.
The VIN number supplied makes it a January 59 manufactured CKD, before shipment to South-Africa.
I would take it then that it was built a few months later in Uitenhage.
Good luck with the resto. Early big windows in RHD are rare.

Karmakoma,
I agree with you on the date. Do you have a reference source for the chassis numbered CKD models and the SA manufactured beetles.
Reason I want to get another birth certificate from Germany for another beetle since my first gave no really great details because it was a CKD - colours of paint, interior etc. If I can tell the difference it could save me paying for a certificate.
Thanks

a bit of an update:
So yesterday I got the car home "Stofel" named by my kids.
There is more rust then what I thought but nothing that cant be fixed. The Chanels on the roof as well as at the rear window. Floor pan is dented and some rust.
The rear window is smaller then the current beetle I have so I have to be carfull that I dont damge teh window when I remove it.
for teh 1st time in more the 14 yrears the car is standing on 4 wheels again, just so that I can move the car arround.
I wil post a couple of pics latter as soon as I have found my Camera's card reader.

Pictures yay!!!
On the trailer in Brits:
On 4 wheels for the 1st time in 14 years:
So as I mentioned in my previous post, there is some rust that needs to be taken care of, I have started with some rust converter already just to stop the rust for now.
On the roof both sides I will need to do repairs, cut out and replace.
In the back of the car next to the back window as well as below the window I will have cut out and replace panels.
The floor pan is dented but not too badly rusted, just one area on the left rear that is rusted true.
The doors are solid as well as the hinges with no droop on the hinges.
I have been in communication with the "Gearbox man"

and I will be taking the box to Pierre to get sorted.
As for colours, well I like Black

. So black it will be with nice alloys and a black with red trim leather interior "I already have the leather for the seats"
Disk breaks in the front and n mild street motor in the back..
Due to the fact that the car has a lot of missing parts the restore will be done as a custom.
I will need to source quarter windows, I do have a 1 piece window kit but getting them to work properly is also a bit of an issue.

Okay,
So after due concederation I have decide to rather pass on this project.
I would love to carry on with the car but I will not be able to give it my full attention and would rather pass it to someone that might be able to a better job.
It is a 1958. There is no papper work for the car and it is also not on the system any more.
I have installed a 1976 gearbox in the car and will sell the car as is. "Still needs End cap for the box"
It does have rust on the roof and on the floor pan as well as on the inside at the rear window.
If your are intrested please PM me an offer as I would like to get back what I paid for the car.
To admin please move to relavant thread. Thx
