Beetle, 70's - last traffic services bug in service in ZA ?

This was at an auction yard in Ceres about 4 weeks ago. According to the auctioneer, he had remembered seeing the Beetle on duty this year. Surely this must be the last Beetle in Govt /Municipal/Civil service in South Africa ?

This Beetle would look great in a SA Beetle Museum. Do you know what it sold for?

I don't Wernher. I went up to have a look at a '48 Chev firetruck, but at some stage a grass fire and swept through the yard and the Chev was destroyed (along with a recently refurbished Unimog )
I wanted to post pics of the Beetle but was too busy with other things, and imageshack was giving me grief. I'll try get hold of the auctioneer and see what happened - most of the vehicles in the yard were scrap

Thanks Paul. As you can tell , I'm all about saving SA air cooled history. Would be great to see the car stay the way it is and not restored.
