Hi Guys

Hoping someone can shed some light on some Questions I have?

Im Currently Looking for a Kombi/Transporter to convert into a Camper/Limo

My Idea is to put in a Corner Sofa, Mini Fridge, TV , Sound something simliar to this http://www.kustomkombi.com/projects/...ls.php?sn=0017

I Just want to Find out the Legality with carring passengers in the back do you have to have seat belts or do you have to be seated in a line like a taxi or can you just sit anywhere in the back and its fine?

Also can you have passengers as above in a Panel Van with the same idea as its only got one window on the side and not all the way around like a normal Kombi is this fine or do you have to cut windows?

Thanks

Hi and welcome,

If you restore the bus, and manage to get it on the road, with the original Vin Number, then all the requirements that where in place at the time of 1st registration apply s.
Should you need to register it with Police numbers, it will be classed as a "HomeBuilt" and it then has to comply with the current regulations of a new car now being registered for the 1st time.

Now I can hear a lot of guys on this forum, jumping up and down, saying, that they managed to get a car registered as this or that. Yes, it will depend on the RW centre that you use, as some of these guys do not know the law anyway.

If the seats are in the "Camper" section, you will not require seat belts but if I was you, I would fit them anyway, Safety of your family is more important then the ability to bypass an regulation.

And yes, you can have seats randomly spread all over the bus, facing any direction you want.

As I see it

Herman

these days when you get pulled over ,the first thing the cops do is check the license disk to see what is stated on there regarding seating capacity.
we got pulled over with a mahindra double cab bakkie where the license disk stated only allowed to carry 4 passengers,we were 5.cop gave us a hard time for being overloaded but when we showed him the back seat has 3 sets of safety belts he didnt know what to say.

You can convert your van as you please, as it will be licensed in a private persons name, you can load into it what you like, if a cop gives you a hard time for not changing the "use" of the van, you say you just done it this weekend, and that you have 21 days to change the "usage" of the van, that is if you want too.
You will only pick up :bn: , if it is a company van or bus used for transporting persons.
Herman.

Will this be only for personal use or do you plan to charge people to travel in it? If the latter then a few other regulations mught be applicable.
