Help in identifying engine

Hi All.
I have googled my *ss off but do not find a site that can help me identify this engine, with what I think is the engine number.
The odd shaped exhaust port makes me think that it is a 2l from a "Vanagon".
Any help in identifying it or reference to a helpfull website would be appreciated.
the only sites I have found give a 2 letter reference where as my engine number seems to have 5 letters (SFCUR) and then the numbers.
I am hoping it will be a straight forward overhaul and install into my 71 Westy.
Thanks
Dave

Yes, a CU engine number would come from a 79-82 2.0l bus. The blue paint on the case tells you it was once rebuilt by Competition Motors (warning sign), and the reground engine number tells you it was once rebuilt by VWSA/Remtec.
Try this site for engine ID:
http://www.type2.com/library/identifi/boxeng2.htm
The SF prefix denotes a South African engine.
A Type4 engine will fit into a 71 westy, but you will have to hack some sheetmetal in the engine compartment.

...but please don't.
At what stage did the VW/Audi relationship start, and develop, to the point where shared parts were used?

I don't know when the VW and Audi logos started to appear together on all VW/Audi parts, but there are NO shared parts between Audis and ACVWs. The same can't be said for WCVWs.

I disagree Fig!
A Fleetline I'm buying in the near future has corner windows, marked 'B' for Brazil, with both logos!
I Sh*t you not!
I have seen 2 differently marked Fleetline corner windows in my time.

AFAIK ALL VW and Audi parts made after a certain date in the early 1970s have both the VW and Audi logos on them. But that does not imply parts are shared.
I think you'll struggle to find an Audi that takes split bus corner windows, or any other split bus or Beetle or ACVW part.
Fleetline corner windows are either Brazilian made, as the one you describe, or SA made, which would have the Armourfloat safety glass logo.

I recall them perfectly...they are marked 'B' with both logos - without doubt.
Somewhere I have a photo, but good luck on me finding it.
Will take another when I see the bus again.

Maybe I'm not being clear.
YES, you will find both logos on ALL VW and Audi parts made after some time in the early 70s, and NO, there are no interchangeable parts between any Audi or ACVW (excapt maybe wheel bolts and stuff like that).
No need to find the pic, I have several of those Braz corner windows with both the VW and Audi logos. In fact, you will notice both the VW and Audi logos on almost every single part on a Fleetline. But none of them will fit on any Audi.
Feeling a bit fuzzy this morning, Merlin?

Unless the engine is free those late vanagons are not worth the troubleIf the heads are ok they might be worth something

Hey Impi.
I got the engine basically for nothing, so I figured I could afford to spend some money on it.
Don't want to wast my time and money though.
What makes the Type 2, T3, type 4 engine bad, or more trouble than it's worth

That would be a T25 engine.
T2 (splittie), and Type 3's used the same engine as a bug, just with different air filters, etc.
The Type 4 (411, 412) engine was used in late Bay's too.

There's a factual error in every line of your post Merlin.
T2 is baywindow. Split bus is T1; they are both Type 2. Type 3 engines are NOT the same as Type 1 engines (although late Brazilian cases are "universal", meaning they work for Types 1, 2 & 3).
T25 is only T25 in the UK, otherwise it's T3, not to be confused with Type 3.
IMPI, wtf is a vanagon?

I know i'm not IMPI but I'll give my 2cents worth.A Vanagon is what we here in ZA know as a Microbus/Caravelle/Syncro aka Type25 (1980+) .The yanks know it as a Vanagon....
