Hi everybody
I'm currently looking at buying a VW Kombi 2.0l Executive Air Cooled, 1975 according to the owner.
How much are these worth?
It's still original and in good condition.

Please post some pictures.
I saw a red one in outstanding condition for sale in the Junkmail a year or two ago. The owner wanted R30K. I wanted him to take it to a workshop to have a few things sorted out and started organising that. He ended up deciding to keep it. I should have flown up and taken it of his hands, then sorted out the leaky brakes and taken it home. It was red and lovely with chrome bumpers, chrome trim and a few Kruger Park stickers in the window. The interior was spotless having tranported tidy little daughters not vinyl chowing lighties. When next I saw it it was in Cape Town Gumtree (owner moved to CT) adverised for R85K.
You need to decide how much you are prepared to spend and get a feel for the market by continually browsing the classifieds. Rather lose a few good deals getting a feel for the market than end up with a bad deal or knowing that you could have done better. You will pay more for a complete bus in excellent running condition but it will be cheaper in the long run than restoring. If you are not keen on refurbishing I suggest you go that way. Restoring is for passionate guys. Here is my guestimate of what you can expect to pay based on what I have seen.
Let's forget the silly price they want for that bus in Cape Town. I call it a silly price because I would not be prepared to pay it, that doesn't mean he won't get his money. The Brits are competing with us for our vintage toys these days. Assuming good running order, complete, good condition:
Executive "Late Bay" Kombi R30K-R50K
Deluxe "Early Bay" Kombi R40K-R65K
There are variations which will boost value like factory sun roof. Campers are more valuable in my opinion. If you like campers you should consider the Jurgens variation on the acvw camper theme. I think we as South Africans underate them badly.

That bus looks damned nice !!! Still has all the Executive "trimmings" - chrome bumpers, side step, parcel trays mmmmm nice
It has obviously been well cared for and looked after by its previous owner[s], the upholstery also seems to be original and in good condition (unbelievable being a school bus!).
Snap this one up if you have been offered a good price !
How is the engine and all the rest ? Good luck ...

The price is R50k. Just wanted to make sure I don't pay to much.
Looks very good for a school bus.
My wife is really keen on this one. If all goes well I'll probably have it at home by next weekend.
Thanks for the help everybody.
I'll post some more pics when I get it.

Went out yesterday to go see the bus.
She still looks pretty good, only problem for me is that the big colour stripes have been painted on.
So if I buy the bus I'll have to paint it at some stage.
She still drives well and everything is still original. Even the factory fitted radio still sounds good.
So only things that need to be attended to is the paint at some stage, and it needs tyres for the front. The wrong profile is fitted at the moment.
What would you say is a good offer?

That bus does look in very good condition - but, for me, that funky paintjob is a turnoff, and I suspect for many other buyers also, that to me would mean the seller/owner should consider a substantially lower offer, since the novelty of that paint is lost on collectors. Offer them R35 k and go from there.
