Spam. How can we stop it?

Hi Guys,
I noticed a lot of ads for jackets boots and bags posted on the site lately. They appear in new threads and as replies to current topics. I think I am not the only one who is getting GATVOL. Eben, is there no way you can stop it, like a trick question in the welcome e-mail or something?

Ja, I have been busy reporting them as spam... guess the mods are very busy today.

Agreed. I've just read Warwick-Lowlight's 'Sometimes Stupid' thread and came across several million lines of incomprehensible gibberish and some nonsense about cheap shoes by a single poster called
jj3mmb14.

Possible solution?: Maybe use one of those anti spam image codes when registering?

I have been banning most of the guys and erasing their posts....

Yesterday morning and this morning I've deleted close to 40 spam replies to existing threads, and banned a couple of spammers. Best is NOT to reply to spam messages at all.

I just blocked another 4 or 5 guys and erased about 10 topics...
Simple request to all... dont bother writing in their topics, it will get erased anyway and wont add to your post count.

It would seem these spammers/hackers are rather busy in our country this past week or so....
I received a couple funny emails (nogal from internal people on the mail system at my company) with all sorts of gibberish and strange words and links to websites
