As jou buggy polisieklaring moet kry, gaan hy kolletjies ook moet kry. As polisieklaring nie nodig is nie, kry jy fokolletjies - OK?

This Data-Dot was not thought through very well, when it came to us restorers of old cars.

As these laws are passed for the general motor industry, where you buy a car, ride a car, sell/ scrap a car, have it crushed and thats the end of its life, before being turned into 3 toasters and a deep freeze.

So unless you want to take the risk of restoring the car fully, and then having it taken away from you as you can not get clearance, You are forced to go for data dot, then police clearance then put it on your name, then restore it.

So what happens to the data dot, well who gives a dam..... If they could not work us into the system, then we will paint over the dots, and they can work it out in a few years from now, when we land up on in a road block, whether we are "Restorers" or "Car Thieves".

Can you imagine the joy, when you take 4 Donner cars (Edited;- All with different Data-Dot numbers), and build up one fully restored car,.......
that will make up a very interesting, road side entertainment display for passing motorists, seeing you manhandled with very little dignity into the back of the Cop van, while you screaming out your innocents, and dialing your lawyer at the same time.

We in for a trying time....

Dots all volks...

Herman

Sorry, you asked where.... most private Roadworthy guys do it for you, price is between R200 and R550.

Goed gesê Herman. Ons sal dalk maar met 'n geskiedenis boek in die kar moet rondry.

Ek praat vandag met 'n ou wat die Dotting in die area doen en hy kan my ook nie antwoord nie. Hy gaan uitvind en my laat weet.

Are you taking it for police clearance or not? If not, stop worrying about it. You don't need it.

Once again, the government brings in these rules and regulations, but they are never able to enforce it. It's a waste of time.

Herman, sometimes I worry about you. Are you sniffing to much of the bonding liquid again?

Thanks anyway.

I have to take my Syncro for police clearance of the new engine so the po-po said I need to get it micro dotted.

Funny, that what my family keeps saying to my psychiatrist.....

Have you been spying over my fence again.........

Thanks anyway.

You welcome... I think..

Now !!! dont you think that is a bit strange.... they want you to take a "Possible" stolen car, have it Data-Doted, then take it to Police Clearance, the Cop looks and sees it is data doted, looks at your certificate, and gives you clearance, they do not even check if the data-dot is an old one, maybe stolen ones or twice., but as you have the data dot certificate you are now the legal owner........ :?:

Ok!! I hear you say, they did not work it out, why should we...

So I will not either...

:TIC:

Herman....

As far as I undersatnd it only the engine is data doted I stand to be corrected
I have to vehicle that still need this done and apparently can only be done at gov license dept at a cost of R550.00 per car

No, the whole car gets done, they have a prescribed placement instruction, so the cops will know where to find them.

The engine gets
Both the axles get,
all the wheels get on the inside,
the transmission gets,
the steering box gets,
all the wheel arches get
The underside gets in all the holes
the doors get through the drain holes
bonnet and boot get.
and they spray on your Vin Plate as well.

So basies wat jy sê is, as ek hom ge-Dot het kan ek hom nie restoreer nie. Wag ek met Dotting so dat ek hom kan restoreer gaan hy nog 'n jaar of twee vat voor hy geregistreer kan word.

That is exactly my point, these guys did not think it through.

Maybe do what I did, apply for clearance, do Data Dot, get clearance, register in your name, restore the car and if you undo the dots, too bad, thats life, they must understand that you have no option.

As the Data Dot guy said to me, they can only tell you to redo the Data Dot, but then you have two sets of numbers ????????

Can they not re-do the dots but make sure the new dots have the same numbers?

at my last job we had a customer who bought a stolen+recovered A4, which he modified and fiddled with while it was being repaired and made ready for clearance/roadworthy/etc. he was heavily upset when they sprayed the dots all over his freshly mirror-polished intake manifold, his shiny new wheels, on the side mounted intercooler (dotting wheel arch where theres a hole for the cooler) and stuffed up a speaker in the front door when they sprayed the drain hole....
