I would like to find out if BMW rims will fit my 76 Brazilia Kombi...
I would also like to know where the best place is to get adaptor plates made.

Thanx :)

Hi Cyndi,
Welcome to the forum, and also to the wonderful weird world of the Brazilia Kombi

The Bus you have, if standard, will have a "Wide 5" wheel bolt system, that means that the 5 bolts are spaced wide apart.

The BMW has a close pattern on its bolts, this means that you would have to drill and tap into the Drum brakes to fit the wheels.

This has been done in the past, but I think every body would advise against that as it is dangerous.

There are other wheels that look good that will fit, you can look at suppliers links on the web. .. http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... =9&t=25504
Think http://www.volkspares.co.za carry wheels as well.
You could change the drum brakes to Disk brakes with the BMW wheel bolt pattern, then you could fit these wheels.
Best bet is to place a post in the Parts Wanted section for good looking wheels and you will be amazed what some of these guy have stashed away in their sheds.

Re-drilling of wide 5 bus drums to fit other wheels with a smaller PCD of more modern wheels is not possible in any way or form, forget it. Your best bet it to get adapters to go from the 5x205 to the BMW 5x120 they are around R450 per adapter.

Thanks, i was offered a set of bm mags with tyres at a very cheap price. That's why i wanted to know. I haven't decided on how i'm going to finish the kombi yet so i can't decide what to do. I would like to keep it quite original on the outside but those original parts are very expensive and good second hand ones seem hard to find as well. I will post a list of things i am interested in in the parts section.
Thanks again.

Your bus is made of a mixture of the newer Bay Window bus parts, and the older Split window bus parts.
The Bay window parts are very easy to find, and there are a lot of guys here that regularly strip Bay window buses for parts.
The Split bus and or Fleetline parts are harder to find, but due to a good bunch of guys here, should you ask, they will offer these parts to assist.
Good luck with your project, and as long as the bus is running, you can always get parts if and when they become available.
Just as a matter of interest your Brazilia is the 5 th one on this forum, (if I counted right)
(Edit;- Make that 6)

7! I thought these Brazilia's were scarce. I posted for some things i need and didn't really get any response. I thought it was because there aren't too many of them. I am prepared to pay for things....i just don't have too much. My dad is going to try go to cars in the park to see what he can find there.

Hi Cyndi, if I may chime in here. You mentioned that you can get BMW rims WITH tyres. Bear in mind that standard passenger car tires don't meet VW specs for load and inflation capacity, and are UNSAFE for Bus use. Busses require commercial or 8 ply tyres where the sidewall is re-enforced (especially when loaded full of camping gear)

Do not get despondent, the reason you do not get much feed back, is that a lot of guys do not know which is a Split part, and which is a Bay Window part.
i will try to identify which part is which, then guys can let you know if they have these or not.

Not sure how scarce they are as I have not heard how many where imported at the time, sorry.
