Hi guys has anyone done a full window modification on a beetle and what parts were used eg.seals ,rubbers ,scrapers (inside and outside),window mechanism , where did you get the windows cut or made.
where where the parts sourced from aswell.
how much did it cost complete.
how much of time was taken to complete the project.
if anyone has done this mod please post some pic .
thanks to all.

It looks nice for the first few days but once you start struggling with a window that keeps dropping forward you realise it was nt really worth it

These were all the hype in the 80's and 90's, and should stay there. Never liked them, as some peeps would take short cuts and use single rails.... drive around, hit a bump and the window would drop down into a million pieces.... was fun seeing them try to remove all the glass from the beetles door afterwards...

Dont do it, a full kit will cost about R2k but dont dont dont do it - done it 3 times and every time i say will buy all the best parts for the next one, bought all the best parts (some twice) on my grey 62 and with 20 20 hindsight - dont do it

It looks cool but appart form what everyone says the 3/4 vent is the best way to cool down the car in summer. I wish modern cars had this fitted.

Modern cars have AC.
On the one piece window thing, if you dont have window regulator mechanisms from a 66/67 (chicken teeth) beetle then you are going to be very disapointed. I have done it before and worked well with a set of 67 regulators until the driver side mechanism packed up, then fitted a 70's mechanism, just never worked right again, the glass is heavy towards the front & allways wound down with a rocking motion even with a felt channel fitted to support the front end of the glass. I retained the orifginal window scraper but sacraficed the lower rubber from another set to extend the area were the vent window was originaly, both inner & outer, these extender bits were glued in place, looked cool, but crap operation frustated me. The door stoppers were removed & replaced with a cable setup, if you leave the original ones in place & with the window rolled down & you open & close the door you are going to break the glass. The door was modified to take the 67 regulator and an extra support channel added on the inside to guide the sliding of the glass, quite a job to get it right.

Did mine over 15yrs ago and never had a problem. Think it puts strain on the winder mech as every five years I replace that
