I get called a tree hugger all the time and must admit, I do feel a bit guilty about the size of the carbon footprint my bus leaves. I cut down & go green everywhere else to try make up though.

The greater part of a car's carbon footprint comes from its manufacture. Apparently it has been calculated that a car only amortises its environmental cost of manufacture after 12 years.
So old gas guzzlers are "greener" than new fuel efficient cars.
I drive a Chinese plastic scooter to work every day to make up for all the old gas guzzlers I drive on the weekends. My commuting fuel use has dropped to about five litres a week!
