1600 vw motor cuts out only in idle after driving ?????

Hi. I have a Kango Beach Buggy with a 1600 VW 1970 motor in.
This problem has myself and even the mechanics blocked.
She was running fine before this- and this just started happening.

If I start her up she idles sweetly in neautral - I can take her for a spin in all gears - top speed, but as soon as I come to stop (say at a stop street) she dies off - almost as though she is not getting juice. This happen whether I have just used my clutch to stop while in gear or sitting in neutral. What is getting us is that if I start her up she can idle no problem the whole day - but as soon as I drive (with no problem) she dies when I stop at the stop street - unless I rev hard - I just cannot let her idle or she dies. I just put in brand new carb-kit, checked the timing, idling, air & fuel screw and still no go. She idles beautifully - but if I drive thats it.
Please help.

Interesting one. I was about to suggest the obvious, the idle cut-off solenoid, but that would stop it idling at all.

I would check idle air mixture (use a CO meter) and replace your condensor on general principles.

Did you replace any jets during the carb rebuild? If so, were they all the same size as those you removed?

did she do this before the new carb kit was installed. If not, then you make an oopsie and need to do the carb again.

I am thinking vaccuum leak. Buy a can of quick start. Dont use it (yet). Drive around until the car starts acting up. Get her idling. Spray quick start around the inlet manifolds, carb manifold and carb. Listen to the engine. When you hear the idling change and become faster, you have found your vac leak. Isolate the leak and fix it
