WBX head advice

Post by 68Fastback »

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me out or point me in the right direction..
I'm in the process of getting my fastback up and running (posted some pics in the pics section). Hope i don't offend anyone but the car has a 1.9 WBX engine and radiator installed by the previous owner

The heads began to leak badly and as a result are badly pitted. Does anyone have any suggestions? Volkspares want R1500 per recon head last time i checked (years ago).

Is it cheaper to have the work done at an engineering shop? If so can anyone recommend a good shop?

Thanks

Hi Normally they start leaking because the studs are rusted How is yours?Minor pitting can be fixedby skimming but it is very critical that it is done right. I have found thet they corode because there is air (oxygen) present in the waterjacket. It is extremely difficult to get the engine and rad full of water at the same time. This might be part of your problem. On a bug Iran a tube (8mm) through the roof connecting to the rad and engine via a Golf surge tank Problem solved and no bleeding neccesary.

Go to Mc Donalds Eng. in Johannesburg they do the best work on VW's air-cooled and WBX is the bulk of their work, they are not cheep but give them a try, you will get work that is 100%, speak to Peter (011) 680-1544 they do all of VEE Motors work.

*lol*

I must have read all of the old posts in the various parts of the forum.

Would love to see all the old posts (that are now deleted) that were on the forum before my days here :crying:
