To be honest I'f not come to the point of cutting up the beetle yet, still hoping that somebody will take it and fix it, its really still a nice straight body

The cable you pull and the fuel flap opens .

It has the flap that just flips open with the lock fuel cap

Looking for one like this .
Does yours have a finger hole to lift flap on body .

Do you have Any more pics of the beetle maybe. I know you not at home.
