Spotted this beauty in Hout Bay...

Anybody know the owner or anymore about this bus?

That's no corssover, it's a 71. Full early bay status, no early front late rear like your 72.

If it's the bus I'm thinking of, it belongs to a young guy from Kalk Bay.

Also seen that one near Kalk Bay, always parked up on the pavement. Saw another one on the R44 today, same colour delux, CFM registration, but looking a bit rough, could'nt get a pic.

And then there is Christiaan who also has the exact same model delux, but with a watercooled motor

It is the Kalk Bay bus. Here's a pic of it from when we met the owner and his family in Sedgefield in December 2012.

This has me doing some kop krap..

How do we explain the 112 late bay PCD wheels and hub caps on this 71. I always knew it was a 71 early bay... I always check for the crescent or squared off vents at the rear side of the bus as additional reference too, moreso if I dont or cant see the tail lights.

If indeed these are 112 wheels and caps like it shows in the pictures, should the crossover nomenclature for bay buses not start off in 71?

Crossover comes from the one-year only mix-up of early bay front and late bay rear bodywork, not from any of the dozens of technical changes that were introduced throughout the early bay era, such as disc brakes being introduced for the 71 model year.

FYI, there are one-year only features for every year of early bay from 68 to 72. The 68s were a lot like split buses under the skin, and many changes were made later that are not visible and many people don't know about them, such as the change in the layout of the front chassis rails, which were trangulated for extra strength and safety for 1970, which necessitated a complete revision of the layout of front beam, steering, wiring, fuse box, etc, but a 69 and a 70 look identical from the outside, with the only visible difference being the rearview mirror and sunvisors.

On this topic I read earlier today that the 71 busses- produced late in 1970 were the first to have a "bulge" at the rear wheel arch but then the busses produced from 1971's rear arches were all like the late bay busses.

Also 71 busses produced late 1970 were painted in one colour - inside and out. The busses made in 71 were painted in one colour under the window and another above the window (this colour was also used inside the bus)
