Finally.. They admit it!!!
For the first time ever, a vehicle manufacturer solidifies what we've been saying for over a decade!!
Here's the quote right from Porsche's own web page where their new "Classic Engine Oil" was recently released:
"Although modern oils are better from a technical point of view, this is not the case when it comes to classic air-cooled flat engines."

Starting in 2000 engine oils began to change.. No one knew it. The manufacturers didn't tell us, and it took many failed camshafts and lifters (for pretty much every aircooled engine builder in the USA) for the team of Jake Raby and Charles Navarro to figure it out.
Starting in 2002 oil development and testing began.. Every oil that could be purchased was test ran in some way and then the trend data started to pour in, which pointed to reduced Zinc and Phosphorous in the engine oils affecting the boundary layer protection of critical components- most importantly, camshafts and lifters.
Fast forward almost a decade and we'd gone to great lengths to develop our own oil formulations, seeking assistance from Lake Speed Jr. of Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils. From this relationship products have spawned, to include DT50 Aircooled Engine Oil, DT40 European Blend Sports Car Oil and XP-9 Race Oil. These products are constantly being updated and continually developed in the real world inside Raby engines. We never quit and never give up!
