1970 deluxe sunroof bay

Post by Nixon75 »

Hi everyone
I bought a deluxe sunroof bay last year. The previous owner stripped it to start fixing it up, but never got time for it.
So there I am with a solid bay and a garage full of parts!!
I have spend the last year cleaning, polishing and getting parts together to get it back to it former glory.
The panel work has been taking forever, so decided to get the engine rebuild while it's out.
Sorry I'm trying to attach pics, but can't stay logged in and on my phone the file size is to big. Will send pics as soon as I figure it out.
Nico

Go to your pics folder.... select all you wanna upload... then go right click/ send to email recipient. It will load in your email client and would automatically be downsized. Now copy smaller pics into new folder for posting .

Looking good man! I'm always so amazed by the effort VW people put into their cars.

Hi Everyone

So i got hold of 5 x rostyle rims for a steal and decided to detail them-why not!!
Got them sandblasted and primed and took them home for final colour.
Im not sure if im going to put them on the bus, but time is all i have at this stage, so thought i would finish them just in case.
I wanted a 15'' setup and wanted to keep the old school look so thought rostyles would do the trick.
Please all input is appreciated..

I also finished assembling the dashboard, i think the original colour rocks??!!

Here is some more pics of what i have done so far

Got seats back from upholsterer-not sure if its going to look right, but wanted something different.
Cleaned all interior panels and redid all chrome strips on panels.

And you wont believe, but my friend picked up a original sterling roofrack from our local rubbish tip, that somebody through away!!!
So there i am with a nice sterling 1/4 rack for my bay. I started putting on wooden slats.

How did you do the chrome strip on the panel, interior is going to look great man. Nice score on the roof rack. I recently had my roofrack sandblasted and powder coated at Aspect in Strand, the results are excellent and did'nt cost an arm and a leg.
Your interior is identical to my Delux

Hi paul
I used car vinyl which i heated and cut, so easy and the results look good. Its not mirror finish but it works with the colours. Yes im happy with the roofrack, i got it from kraaifontein rubbish tip. Was battling with the powder coating idea, i wanted to keep something old with the newly painted body??!! I'll have to come and visit you to see what your roofrack looks like.
I cant wait to see our delux's next to each other!
