Hey guys

My bumpers are currently black got the bug like that . Bumpers seem to be in good condition not sure why they were painted everything else on my bug is chrome only bumpers are black .

Anyone have an idea where I can have them chromed and what it would cost .

In Johannesburg we use Sheffield or Supreme Bumpers

R1100 excl vat if your bumpers in good nik no repairs .

Anyone know the difference between nickel plating and chrome plating .

Have you tried stripping some paint to see what's underneath?
Maybe the chrome is still there
Give it a go on a hidden part in case it looks

I was just thinking the same thing while was going down on all the readings, a bit of paint stripper on the bottom of the bumper and check. you never know.

Seems to look good underneath what I don't get is why they were painted [emoji86] think I'm gona try that with the paint stripper a few places on the edges the paint had peeled I've noticed .you can see it in my pic also

How do I remove the paint with the paint stripper without damaging the chrome .
What's the best paint stripper to use on automotive paints I've got regular it says heavy duty paint stripper on the tin . Power fix brand I think .

best is to use a heat gun and a scraper

Ék het destyds so stripper gebruik wat jy in n glas bottel kry wat soos wat lyk maar so jelly vorm is. Werk baie Nice.

Nickel plating is the primary plating layer, after copper. It is usually seen on older vehicles, particularly old English motorcycles, before chroming became the preferred plating finish. That said, chrome plating is actually just a thin sealing layer on top of the nickel plating, which helps prevent oxidising of the nickel. As for where to get it done, I've used Supreme Bumpers and got fantastic results, albeit at a stiff price. I've also recommended them to friends, with mixed results. There is also African Electroplaters on the West Rand, who do a good job, but do tend to take their time about it. What I can say with certainty though, is that for a premium finish, you will pay a premium price. Hopefully you find a nice surprise under that black paint and won't have to fork out for a new plating job.

I've used various methods for removing paint; acetone works best on normal paint, applied with a sturdy paint brush. For more hardy paint, I've had good results with Nitromors and various other industrial paint strippers. Use a plastic scraper if you can, otherwise use a normal scraper with a good edge and be very careful. Whatever you use though, make sure you wear gloves.

I got a quote from them today for +/- R800 for a bumper.
Anyone else have experience with them ?
Need to get a rear blade bumper and those european type overriders chromed. Everything new and still in packaging but its that empi nonsense and I want to get another layer over it.
