rust protection agent

Dulux wall 'n all.
Be careful of these rust solutions...some eat into the metal themselves and F' up the paint you put over them.

Well the dry air of the Great Karoo is excellent against rust, but the waxed-based Waxoyl (spelling?) is probably the best protection, it you spray it inside the doors, panels etc. of your vehicle. Dunno if it is available in SA, but ask that Google guy - they say he knows all?

What about stuff before you paint, or is elbow grease, shot blasting the only thing.

I tried the Wikipedia guy, he says:
Waxoyl (a trade mark of Waxoyl AG, Switzerland) is a rust-preventative fluid which belongs to the general category of "slushing oils". It is commonly used to prolong the life of car chassis and bodywork by excluding water and air from bare metal and by slowing the progress of existing rust using rust inhibitors. The fluid contains waxy particles suspended (not dissolved) in white spirit, which evaporates after application. The suspended nature of the wax means Waxoyl in its pre-application state is a thick opaque liquid. It usually requires warming and thinning in order to apply it using spray or injection equipment. DIY kits are available with a basic pressure can, spraygun and extension probe, but to achieve good spray coverage inside hollow box members, a proper compressed air-powered lance must be used.
The Waxoyl brand name is also used for a car body underseal. The DIY range is sold by Hammerite in the UK, although a professional range is also available direct from Waxoyl in Switzerland.
Dinitrol and Dynax 60 are competing products with similar properties.

I think a locally available version of Waxoyl is called Tectyl (I may be talking total BS though). Don't we have any Durbanites here? They will know about this.
I also found a recipe for DIY waxoyl a few years ago, which looked useful as the trademarked stuff is not cheap. The answer is out there; if google doesn't find it, you're asking the wrong question!

Tectul make a chain lube in aerosol that is FANTASTIC for preserving metal parts. whenever I store a crank, or cam, or any part I dont want to rust I give it a light coat of tectyl and soon the propellant evaporates and you are left with the most amazing coat of (a bit) sticky stuff.
Info off the can--- tectyl rust preventative, chain lube with tecaloy, distributed by shell S.A.
--Good for O ring type chains as well --

I use Duram NS4 expensive but good, had no after problem with it sofar, you can paint it on you can spray it on you can use a paint roller to aply it, or like some idiots they just open the can and throw it over the car,,....he he he he
