1956 "Bay"? Possible?

Hey guys,
in my recent searching for a Bus, this advert jumped out at me. I emailed the chap, the "suggest" in the little knowledge I have, that he's possibly got his description wrong and that this wasn't a 1956 Bus, but probably an early Bay..

Well I got a mouth full, saying I'm the same as all the others, he has papers and Vin that proves this was a Brazil bus made in 1956, and because he has now had it valued and he knows what it is, it's no longer for sale.
Well it is a lovely looking Bus, but is it a '56?

Of course it is, the late bay nose design from 1972/3 was considered "before its time" in 1956. The motoring press at the time described these buses as "the future of the VW T2."

VW actually only started the mainstream marketing of the bus almost 2 decades later, when they came out.

Surely it's a 1976 bus - otherwise known as a Fugly?

Not quite sure what the seller meant when he said he'd had it valued and now it was no longer for sale. From what I've seen these particular kombi's are the least popular of all the busses. The most I've heard of one sell for is R 80 000, and two weeks back I just missed a panelvan version for R25 000. I hope that the person who misinformed him about it being a '56 hasn't also misinformed him about it's value, and pegged it at R 300 000 :)

His first response to me..

"It's a 56 it's a Brazilian bus just google them they were parts from the t1 and t2 busses put together becoming very rare to find because a select few were built the bus came from a museum. But I am not selling it because I didnt know what I had till 2 weeks ago after the we got the bus evaluated. So I am keeping her"

I then said um, no, you're mistaken.. and some other stuff, to which he responded..

"Your exactly the same as the others :(. Please go and do research on Brazilian kombis vin number on the bus is legit papers all in order I will research further and keep you email to prove to you and the 50 others that have the same mentality"

Look, I won't be able to buy it, he's not selling it, but it caught me off-guard.. I did research, and sent him the Wiki link about T2's, made no diffs.. So thought I'd ask the experts here.

In my limited experience with VW Kombi's, I've noticed that they do seem to attract some very stubborn, hard-headed individuals who will not change their tune once they have an opinion, regardless of the evidence laid before them :) It's a particularly unappealing trait. Here we have a typical example of such an owner.
So 50 people tell you that a '56 German BaySplit doesn't exist - cannot exist, and you'd rather believe the one person who "evaluated" the vehicle. Maybe this guy has a restored vehicle with a VIN "borrowed" from a splitty wreck with papers :) Now he thinks he has a very rare kombi worth a fortune....Hehe - if it was built in 1956 it would definitely be the only one in existence :) Sure, Brazilia's were a combination of T1 and T2 components - built in the 70's! Of course, nothing you say, do, show or prove will change his opinion because he is right and we are all wrong...Sigh...

LOL! I'm one of the 50 morons who corrected him. He probably gets 1956 from the same place a lot of Fleetline owners get that their buses are "67s" -- the number 67 appears on all Fleetline VIN tags, and 56 appears on some baysplit VIN tags.

Derek, the stubborn, righteous trait is not exclusive to VW volks, I think you'll find it's a human trait.

Isn't the favourite game of all humanity, "I'm right, you're wrong; let me fcuk you up!"

All of you heathen non believers should be flogged and salted and then flogged again. And then salted. Maybe add some roasted coriander seed, pepper, balsamic vinegar. Then dried.... well I have lost the plot somewhat. What I wanted to say is this:

Anything is possible

Not sure HOW you VW experts can question this chap, he has all the facts in the add........

1956 ................ The year of manufacture, as seen on the vin plate, actually it was built twice as the number is "56/56"

Volkswagen............... The make of manufacturer, heard of them before somewhere...

Beetle................ the reference to the "ti" history, I think he is referring to.

Panel Van ...........as it has no windows, this can be seen from the photo

Brazilian made.........Maybe from his research.

Very valuable .......... from his vintage car evaluator in Zimbabwe.

and you all call your self 'Experts"!!!!!

Yes Muds,.....its just my special brand of humour. You will see I made reference to the year the late bay nose was put into production, as well as saying that this bus was only marketed 20 years after 1956,....when it came out............

how are you keeping Muds?
