Smart's 1970 VW Beetle
So after many moons of just lurking on forums, i decided it’s time i start my own thread. I have always been a Beetle head, my late father owned a 1969 VW Beetle & so did my brother, both are still at home. About six years ago I bought my own 1970 Air Cooled VW Beetle. The car was bought from an elderly gentlemen and came with loads of spares. My on-going project.
In 2010 I attended my first Classic Car show in Plumstead, the Beetle on the right is mine. Yeah I know huge wheel gap. One of the many things I noticed was the ride height of man of the cars. I met quite a few Air Cooled VW gentlemen and learnt more about these awesome VW’s. The main thing on my mind was ride height.

Re: Smart's 1970 VW Beetle
Speaking to a few I heard about pulling blade to lower the car and also heard about buying adjustable beam from Flat Four Racing.
I did my research, lurking on forums and I learnt pulling blades can be dangerous, but then again I thought my bro’s Beetle never gave any issues with blades out? Well I wanted to do things the ‘safe way’ and bought an adjustable beam from FFR.
Ja I know huge difference. The ride was amazing!! For some reason the car was uneven at the rear? I had a friend assist with lowering the one side one click to even the car.

One thing for sure, this AC’s are addictive. I had a problem with this wing and removed it

Being more of a Steelies fan, I got hold a set of 15inch Steelies, were yellow when I got them. Cleaned them, sanded, and got it coated red, red being a trend to steelies then. Exhaust also being crucial need, I got a Empi 2 Tip GT and J-Pipes from FFR.

Thinking of all the spares that came when buying the car. After maybe 4years i decide to go back around to the elderly gentlemen whom the car was purchsed from in searching for a roof carrier and too my luck he had one hanging in his shed. It was'nt the OG one, but had cups and clamps. and did the job.

After seeing too much 2k red steelies, it was time for change. Went Black on the Steelies, changing profiles were overdue, 185/60/15 for the rear and 175/60/15 for the front with a set of Atlas Whitewall inserts
