I always make sure I have a full set of ALL the tin ware of a motor as wel as the forget me nots.

Well after I got the sub assembly back from my buddy who had assembled it I sprayed the block, genny pedistal and manifold in Cast Iron .
Then after sand blasting all the tin ware I sprayed a coat of primer on and then sprayed ttem in Micra Black (slightly mat black with a bit of a sparkle) and then assembled the motor.
The red genny and backing will be changed soon, now I just have to find the dizzy cap and HT leads, attach the coil and carb and then we are ready to go although I would like to test run the motor befor instaling it after I am finished with the body of course.

So I finally got round to fitting the left hand side door, after alot of pondering, head scratching and worring that it would not turn out rightand not open properly, I must say that it did not come out to bad.
To get the gap between the door and the sill I used a piece of rubber about 4mm thick and laid it over the sill and from there is was just a case of possitioning the door and the hinges just right, now I just need to trim the edge of the door on the hinge side.

Next week I hope to bolt the body to the pan so that I can fit the R/H side door

These pics may be of interest to Marnus, they are of the clam shell fitted as well as the engine, it shows the space between the motor and the bottom of the clam shell when it is hinged from the "cockpit" side.

I must say that at first I did have my doubts that it would work and although I do feel that it is not true to the RSK build but I looked at it from a practical point and ease of access to the the motor and gearbox should i need to work on it.

That is very impressive. Ultimately it is about what the car looks like when you are done. No-one is going to be bothered if the clamshell hinges to the front. It is also going to be a bit lighter without the frame running around the back.

Well not much has happened lately except that I have been collecting some accessories
I have found some more "mesh" for the rear vents in the clam shell , I now have 3 different types I will decide once the body has been sprayed.
I also shortend the steering column, pics to follow.

These pics are of the pan before and after I removed the seat runners so that I could trial fit the bucket seat that I am making.
Small problem that I picked up in that the back rest of the seat is abit to laid back so I so I will need to cut a V in the sides of the seat and bring it forward.

Also trial fitted the steering column pics to follow.

Something I have found is that when one is driving in town I sit up as straight as the seat will allow for better vision but when driving on the open road I prefer to lean back and sink into the seat to sit lower as the wind can get quite irritating, even with the higher wind deflector. My steering wheel is back far enough to be able to reach it comfortably when cruising.

I place the seat in position that I felt comfortable with (I am tall and skinny) and in the laid back position my arms dont reach the wheel and if I move the seat forward then my knees are neither side of the steering. But I guess it will be a case of trial and error.
Pics are of the shortened steering wheel and then fitted.

I had to remove the indicator stalk and just use then coloumn and I am leaving the steering yellow as the speedo that I have also has a yellow face.
