Hi. Being a moegoe my aluminium rectangular registration plate got damaged when i went too close with the wire buff in the nose portion of my vw bug. The portion with the chassis number is still ok and clearly visible but above it has another range of numbers which i suspect is the year model and original colour code - cant find it on my registration papers though. I have since drilled out the pop rivets and removed the plate. Can you go to Fuzz and have another one printed or what to do when you would like to get it looking like the way it was?

Welcome to ACVWSA Moegoe. Please introduce yourself in the new members thread.
As far as restoring your VIN plate to its former glory, that's probably not possible. So long as the VIN number is still legible and doesn't show signs of tampering, you should be fine. Anyway, the cops/roadworthy guys only look at the VIN plate if there is no stamped VIN (some VWs from 73 to 76 or so), otherwise the VIN stamped on the chassis is the definitive one.

As Fig said, what ever you do, do not tamper with the vin plate, as it could lead to your car being impounded.
Leave it as is, it has provenance, and can go back as is, and it includes your little part of the story, they will see that, but do not try to do anything to it.
