Hi all, I have a Burgundy Top on Sibongile and the weather has not been too kind... It has faded and picked up grime and sui over the months... I bought some products to clean it , but I am now at a point where I would rather re-dye it. Does anybody know where I could get this done or buy the dye / colour to do this ?

Regards
S'duduzo

Dude, you're in "new territory" with this. Not sure if Manny has suggested anything, but I wouldn't know if this is even possible. The Stafast material is supposedly already treated against the elements, fluids, etc.. If you try re-dying the top in fluid, I don't know if it will be prone to absorbing the fluids etc.
Option is to send an email to the peeps in the States where we bought our tops from, maybe they have ideas.

Good luck, keep us all updated.

cheers

Alan

I have sent the guys at Vintagespeedsters an email and awaiting their response. The thing that I first noticed is that the cloth picked soot and oily residue from trucks and other cars. I used Sibongile as a daily driver during spring, hence the rapid pickup of wear and tare. I will let the group know on what VS says.

You should consider having the top "Scotch Guarded", by a upholstery shop, it will then be self cleaning in the rain, or when you wash her.

To answer you question concerning dyeing a stafast top, Yes! it can be done there are a few products and methods available:

A.) Aerosol spray,
B.) Brush on ink
C.) Full dip dye ( a topic that is much debated)

I would strongly recommend contacting softtops.co.za in Cape Town, alternatively contact David at softtop.co.za in Sandton.
Getting a response from VS can at times be a frustrating experience, do not despair they eventually do reply. A tip when contacting VS use large font in your message, seems to work well for me.

Did you try something like the foam upholstery cleaner that comes in a can? Works for couches, shoes, everything :)
Diluted engine degreaser maybe also an option, but I don't know if its going to affect the colour.
Once clean and dyed again, I second Retrovan's Scotchguard idea.
