Hi all
I need some help
Always said i wanted a beetle one day when i am a grown up. And now i have one. Unfortunetly it came in more then one piece.
I need help in identifying the engin. Not sure if it is a 1200 or an 1300 as the boot lid (with 1300 badge on) is not the OE one. After talking to friends and a lot of google, we think it might be an 1957.
If someone can assist me with identifying the year model as well as engine capacity.
The engin "nr" is sffr04056

Introduce your self in the New members thread, and then place some photos of your car from all sides,
this will help to identify as it may be made up of lots of different model parts.

Thats no 1957, may be a 1967, need to look at the vin numbers book
The engine also has a number 1 on the end, may have an extra number between the 56 and the .....1
You will have to look closely.

I'm no expert but I have looked at the car quite closely and going on the fact that it used to have the snow flake tail lights but has a big back window that hasn't been converted and it doesn't have semaphores. I would say its more like a '59, '60.

Chassis number is 1967. That rear valance was a "one year only", (1967).
In 1967 the linkpin front suspension (which you have), was used only on the 1300.
The 1500 had a different "one year only" (for SA), ball joint suspension, which you do not have.
Looks like it was originally a 1967 1300.
In the old days, the factory re-stamped engine numbers when they re-conditioned them. Your digits seems too little.
"SF" means South Africa, next F could be 1300 single port, "R" means reconditiond by the factory, although if there would be an "A" preceding the "R" as in "AR" it would mean late 1300 dual port.
Engine capacity could be anything, as larger pistons/sleeves from a 1500 or 1600 could have been fitted at some time.
