Hi all
First post! So brief intro: owned a beach buggy before, huge learning curve, loved every second.
So bought a VW Kombi yesterday. It's a 1973 baywindow Kombi. Motor was probably changed as its a 2L CJ. It also has dual solex carbs.
Got her running today and went for a drive- running on 3 cylinders and have a big oil leak

i know what I want to fix and will post on the tech forum.
I am based in Northcliff, JHB. Anyone near by who knows the motor. I have to admit there I for on the web on this motor is very limited.
Enjoy the pics

nice bus. Looks like its been stationary for a while?
Try change your spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks before worrying too much about what might be wrong.

I Will give it a good service this coming weekend As It has been parked for a couple months. However I know the distributor needs to be changed The cap doesn't fit the base. I have posted in the advise tab- if like to put in a electronic ignition, but battling to find any info on the CJ motor

Apologies for the Hijack
What is the difference between a CU motor and a CJ motor?
I was under the impression that the CU was a 2L and CJ a 1.8. I have a Cu in my DC and it is giving me uphill as one of the Hydraulic Lifters keeps on "Running Down".
So I am cosidering swopping the motors.
And congrats on the bus

Looks like a nice kombi, congratulations. First i would confirm that the spark plug gaps are no more than .6 to .7mm maximum. Or replace plugs like Tony mentioned.
"CJ engine" = 2L solid lifter
"CU engine" = 2L hydraulic lifter, from later shape kombi.
