1969 BUS / SC / DC

Here are some pics of a further 3 busses I have acquired.

They are all 1969.

This is the first one I fetched. The single cab has virtually been completely stripped and everything boxed. It will need a complete restoration. The drop sides are very straight and body relatively solid.

The second one was the bus. It also needs restoration. The bus is still in its original paint, but the front doors have been swapped for better ones and the previous owner started to fill some dents, but also a very solid bus with minimal work to get it running again.

I also took the opportunity to take my van up and load it to the roof with loads of spares....

Nooit, this Imagepost isn't working now, it refuses to upload more pictures, will have to try later again for the rest

Here are a few more pictures of the bus.

A westfalia interior has been added, but it doesn't belong in here.

Here is the double cab, this one is my favorite.

It is very complete, the engine has just been removed for cleaning, but furthermore this bus should run this weekend again.

It originally came from Namibia, but I only had to pick it up in Barrydale. The bus is very original and rust free in the middle and top halves, but it does have some rot on the sills like many dry climate busses that have been filled with dust in all the cavities over the years.

It really is the most useful vehicle to have, especially for loading up bus spares. Its just really a pity it has a pap 4 cylinder diesel engine, a V8 would be so much better.....

So recently I got the 69 double cab up and running.

I installed a fresh 1600 single port motor, added some brake fluid into a completely dried up braking system, which amazingly actually worked, but the master cylinder and flexible brake lines were leaking. So a quick seal kit on the master cylinder and flexible hoses, the brakes were good to go. With the suspension, it was new shocks, tie rods etc. So, after a test drive around the block, the double can was ready for a trip. We went up to George for the weekend and it really went amazingly well on the trip up.

The trip back however was a little different, firstly it started pouring with rain, but no problem, wipers worked well. But after and hour or so, the one very old blade clip broke and the blade flew off, so stopped to get, but when stopping, the clutch cable snapped. No worries, we would drive on with one wiper and no clutch.

Then, in the worst downpour ever, the wiper system starting making the most horrendous grinding sound (something was seizing up) and starting going slower and slower until it seized up completely. So the last stretch was a little difficult to see, but still a great trip non the less and made it home safe.

Only took these few pics on the trip up.

I see it even got a new exhaust. :)

Nice bus, enjoy it. I think a dc would be very useful.

Absolutely fearless! Nothing like a good shake down run to clear out the cobwebs. A 1600 single port at 60mph... you weren't messing around either. I'm sure you'll have those minor issues sorted in no time.

Love those black plates.
