Wide tracks...

's up all?

It looks like my bug will be getting 17"x7 rims in the near future...

The car is running 195 40s front and back now, on 15" EMPI 8s...

The car is slightly lowered, with a stock length front beam, using Avis adjusters.

The back will soon get a '68 IRS setup, which like the '67 track, is wider than earlier bugs.

The rims I'm looking at have a 42mm offset...and I want to keep the 195 sizing.

:!: Will I need to narrow the front-end?
:!: Is it possible to narrow the rear track to get the wheels under the fenders?

Seeing as how this is being built to be a throw-around toy, is narrowing the front beam, I'm guessing 2 In., going to cause major problems?

Thanks, N.

The rear can be narrowed by using the shorter axles from a pre 66 beetle axles.

...and how does this affect my long-axle IRS installation?

Thanks, N.

Most 17s are for front wheel drives and fits without serious problems by just redrilling the hubs

Thanks IMPI.

It looks like I might take the Escras for a future bus, and see what is offered for the bug...

Cheers, N.
