How many crossovers?

Does anybody know how many crossover buses, panelvan, single cabs and double cabs was manufactured in South Africa ?

Not specifically 72 model I made the mistake at ferdi's to generalise a bus to be a 72 while educating one of my twins, but it was a late 71 model and man was I in the dog box. So I guess any late 71 to early 73 "crossover" models. Lowlight in the front and square light of the late bay in the back.

Also if someone has one of these be it project or saved let's see those pictures.

The baywindow "crossover" bus is indeed a 1972 model year only. Remember that VW model years ran from August to July, so the 1972 model year cars were built between August 1971 and July 1972.

I don't know how many were made in SA, but I do know that 1972 was the peak year for baywindow production. IIRC they made about 1,500 of them every day. I'll look up some figures later.

According to the table posted ion thesamba.com (https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/in ... #baywindow), the 1972 model year saw 294,932 buses built, which was the highest total of buses built in any year of air-cooled production. Breakdown by model was as follows: Microbus 25.7%, Kombi 35.0%, Ambulance 0.7%, Panelvan 21.6%, Double cab pick-up 6.5%, Single cab pick-up 10.5%.

The breakdown per model changed each year, but the proportions remained similar through the years. In 1972, more than 50,000 pick-ups were built. It's anyone's guess how many of those were earmarked for ZA.

I came across this at a scrap yard a few years ago, cross-over Deluxe.

I can kick myself now for not salvaging it.
