I see 2 serious issues here.
There is supposed to be a vent opening behind that checker plate, your vents have been blocked off. This is to allow air from those 3 vents you see either side of the bus to travel inside the bus, then enter through the fire wall to the engine bay.
You also do not have your foam engine seal in place. Your engine will be trying to cool itself with hot air.

The Foam has been fitted post this pic
This pic was prior to the Foam going in and was the only one I had in my archive where I could show the back checker plate that is in there.
Do you perhaps have a pic of what it should look like I want to remove that checker plate and see what is in there this weekend before I go on any sort of trip again. Maybe everything is there but hard to compare if you do not know what it should look like

Searched the net for a picture of what openings should look like. In most cases this was obscured by the upright type 1 engine.
