Nothing else on the globe then just this wire

My Bus has a black and blue wire on the globe. Wonder where the black one was going was just hanging loose there will nip it off since it could short out something seeing that there is a positive charge coming off it.

Alternator's light needs a black wire on the other side. This is the positive from ignition switch, via the fuse box. This black positive also feeds the fuel gauge, and one side of oil and indicator lights.

Thanks Dawie. Just saw that one on the wiring diagram.

Will have to fish for it since mine no longer has the stock ignition switch

Damn this is annoying.

My wiring is a mess will get there eventually

Ok Guys and Gals

So i have noticed that this gears of mine are all over the place i think Mr Z at some point had a nice writeup on how to set the gears in a bus but for the life of me i cannot find it! (Sorry)

I did a bit of searching and found this article on setting the stop plate

http://www.vw-resource.com/plateadj.html

i seem to remember something about putting it in 3rd and loosening the plate and adjusters at the bottom making sure the screw goes into the groove etc etc damn cannot remember maybe a refresher whoever did the post last time or is above accurate.

Basically i am getting gears but struggle and it sort o all over the place i knw it should be but damn this is really very loose.

I also need to check my clutch (Yeah i now i have been having issues with bellhousings etc etc nut i think something is a miss willpost pictures over the weekend of what is there and what i think is not

Basically i have to push the clutch all the way to the floor (no freeplay) to even start to be able to select gears. The cable at the gearbox end is screwed in all the way ie as short as possible.

is it possible that this cable is too long for my bus and that i need a shorter one ?

There is tube before the gearbox like a bowden cable but not sure if it is correct (will post some pics busy raining at the moment in pretoriaville)

So managed to fit the decklid today.
Mission deluxe.
The guys that removed them did not unbolt them but drilled them out.

So tried easy out to no avail

Only thing this did is make the holes bigger and bigger.

Ended up having to drill through the pre threaded little flat bars on the channel at the back of the bus.

Drilled two holes right on top of where these are fitted to try and remove them and that helped but they still could not be removed.

Ok so drilled them big enough so I could get bolts in and fasten the engine deck lid

Image

Unfortunately the back of the deck lid is so butchered I had to make a plan to keep it closed and found this lever to lock it in place

So purists this will lot work for you guys I know.

Ok so next problem I need these little round wheels things to keep the decklid open.
What are they called so I can try and locate some is anybody knows.

They go here

Thanks for reading

those wheels wont take long to make in a lathe if you cant find them.
The clips are called circlips, available from any engineering supplier and most spares shops

Thanks Tony. Will go and see if I can find someone to make me some. I do not have access to a lathe or even know how to drive one.

So been a long time since an update on Blue. Been adding here and there on the bad paint spots and managed to get most of them sanded down

Started in the back with wiring and have managed to wire up the back cluster indicators brakes and park lights with new wire and have tucked them away.

Next will be to start to carefully remove the old wires and pulling the cables from the back to the front for wiring there

On the clutch and gears have managed to make some spacers with some really big washers to make it possible to bring the clutch up a bit more since i was only able to engage gears if I pressed the peddle all the way to the floor plus about another 5mm.

Also adjusted the gear lever and stop plate as per Hayes manual and wow what a difference.

Gears are more aligned not perfectly but a whole lot easier to get into gear especially into reverse.

Took her out for a test drive and feeling a lot more confident driving her on the road.

Now the next big thing is to get the old V6 off the back without a engine lift or block and tackle it is a daunting task.

Then wiring will be tackled and hopefully lots and lots of answers to come.

Have made an A3 laminated print out and will continue this next weekend and report back.

There are a few welding spots that I need to tackle as well but nothing hopefully too serious.
