Hi guys ,just wanted some advise on if it's normal for the steering to be very stiff after the king and link pins were replaced

I wouldnt think so. The bore is supposed to line up between the two bushes, forming a straight line which should keep it smooth.

Close your eyes and get a good hammer and give the bush housings a few smacks. If the bushes where not reamered with a guide then they will be tight as Tony says.

Not sure how the job was done ,also adjusters were fitted on the same day ,but I don't think that is the issue ,
Is there any thing else I could do other than using a hammer ?

If the car is drivable, they will come loose,

If not, you may have to heat them so that expand, and they should be looser when cold.

Just watch out for rubbers and seals.

The car is drivable but its not very safe to drive like that because you try turn the wheel and it doesn't respond straight away and when it does you can't correct it quick enough

Also the old owner has summited the yellow form and I have only 10 days left before I need to roadworthy the car and put it in my name ,it will never pass like this

They are not going to drive it at roadworthy. If it has no play it will pass

You dont need a roadworthy to register the car in your name only thing is you wont get the disc until you provide a roadworthy certificate..Gauteng not sure your side.

When I get there and drive up the ramp they will see how tired I am from driving it because the steering is Kuk hard and it's a effort to drive it

Ya same down here but I don't drive it often so god knows how long it will take for it to loosen up

That's correct. You can go Tuesday and register it on your name and when you done roadworthy you go back to the licence office and then get a disc. In JHB you have 21 days to do the change of ownership.

I dont mean beat it to death,some times the pin catches on the bush and leaves a high spot and a few smaks with a copper hammer or brass punch sorts it out. If that dont work then you have a problem re do the whole thing again.If you dont have the right tools to start off with then you will have these problems and the workshop manual is of no use to you either on this one,so now you have to make a plan with what you have.

The problem you will have if you strip it and ream it straight, the high spots will get cut, and then you have more play then you need.

If you loosen it up by hammer, or heat, and jack it up, and let the family take turns to turn it lock to lock, you will have a good setup for a few thousand K's before having to do it again.

Or, you start again, and spend an extra grand for a full length reamer, and another couple of hundred for the bushes, and do it again.

The choice is a personal thing, and we can not tell you which way to go,

you asked, we told, now it up to you.

Down in CPT you can register the car in your name without roadworthy. You will only be able to get the license disc once you have roadworthy and only then are you legally allowed to drive the car.
I just did exactly that. Bought a car, registered it into my name in Dec without roadworthy and this week I finally went back to get my license disc after the roadworthy went through last week.
