Wiring question

Hi guys and gals.
As you all know im in the process of restoring / modifying a 1976 Beetle 1600 TP. Im busy trying to sort out the absolute crow nest that is the wiring that has been butchered by the previous owners. My actual question is this. I bought a second donor beetle (paperwork indicates that is is a 1970 model). I REALLY like the look of the older steering column in the car VS the later model that my car has.
1. I want to know if it is possible to change out the ignition lock, indicator switch housing (basically the whole steering assembly, but not the column) and swap it in to my later model car? Or do I have to swap out the whole column, and if so are they interchangeable between the 1970 and 1974? Pic attached.
2. is it possible to reroute my wiring from the steering wheel mounted switch, to the older model dash mounted wiper switch. They are bot 2 speed wipers.
