What is wrong?

Hi.
I hope someone can help me.
I have a 1973 1600 dual port beetle. I had it serviced recently but the problem is still there.
When I start the car it idles fine, but after a few minutes of driving or idling the engine dies, unless i keep the revs up, it doesn;t want to idle. then after a few more minutes the engine runs fine again. Also my fuel consumption seems to be a little bit higher. What is wrong?
I get the feeling it might have to do with the carb or choke.

Check for a vacuum leak around where your carb attaches to the inlet manifold as well as all subsequent manifold joints.. What carb are you running? Is it new? Check around the site, there are a number of posts about similar problems. Good luck!

sounds like a vacuum leak yes... might also be worth looking if the cut-off solenoids on the carbs(thing with the wire) is properly fastened....

Hi.
Thanks for the help. I'm running original Solex Carb, so no it is definatly not new.
Had the inlet manifold replace a while back, it had a crack in it. Will check for leaks. It was fine when the manifold was put in.

things to check:
- fuel is coming nicely (fuel line and filters)
- carb is working (idle circuit and jets)
- manifold is sealed (no air leaks)
