Near ZERO end play (Type 4 2l)

Hello,

I have near ZERO end play on my latest rebuild. Its a type 4 2l kombi engine CJ.

I have put in new bearings rings etc from the bottom up and now when I put on the fly wheel with the old end play shims the engine is locked.

If I take out the shims I have 0.15 end play. Which is way too little considering I need to put in the shims bearings.

Question: Can I simply put in a 0.5mm spacer on the end of the crank between the crank and the flywheel?

Marc

It's unfortunate that no one has responded to this question yet Marc. I'm interested to hear what the experienced engine builders have to say. What little I know about this question is probably all wrong, so really want to fill in the gaps in my knowledge.

@calooker? @TonyZ? @IMPI if you ever come here any more?

It looks like the end of the crank has been skimmed.

I had a spacer laser cut for R20 and it fits perfect. 3X .30 shim bearings and my end play is 0.10

I didnt see this thread

As Marc said, it looks like the crank was skimmed, so a spacer is the right choice if its from nice hard material.

That said, this is one of those topics that you need to see in person... maybe he missed something somewhere? Maybe the bearing had the thrust cut to fit the case, but they cut it on the wrong side?
