Do I realy need to cut out the sliding plate that the seat slides on? it looks like there is a rod stuck in the sliding space. P.S. should it just slide out or HOW DO YOPU REMOVE A DRIVER'S SEAT FROM A 69 VARIANT SQ-BACK?

If you look on the side of the seat, handbrake side, you will find a lever that gets pulled, and this releases the seat to slide.

There is a small metal tang located at the end of each seat rail. As stated above, the tangs are located next to the tunnel on each side. The photo you posted does not show the tang due to the wrong angle.
Sit on either of your front seats. Look between the seat & the tunnel in the area at the end of each seat rail you'll see it

It looks like this:

Seats are often stuck on the rails by years of dried grease and grime. Sometimes they need some gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet and some penetrating oil to get them moving on the rails.
