To all the ghurus,....my previous topic of "oil for AFRICA" was very informative,..and I have taken in a lot and it stimulates "thinking",
So onto the next onein the category of oil

This booster kit from scat I think,.....it seems to be fairly easy to replicate BUT!!

Is it a good idea?,..based on Tony's lecture on the oil system,......which I am still coming to grips with!

Oil booster item is just a band aid for a much bigger problem.
If you have low oil pressure its time for a rebuild.

if you manage to get it setup properly with a larger pump and you now are getting oil flowing through the cooler at a good temp, you are going to quickly find the weak point in the system. Namely, you'll probably blow out the oil cooler seals or split the cooler.

If you have bad oil pressure on an old engine, just fill the crank with a thicker oil, such as 15W50 or 20W50

This will bring your oil pressure up if you have low oil pressure.

Or add Wynn's Oil additive, the thick one, a little at a time till your oil pressure is right WHEN HOT.

Bigger pumps and bigger oil pressure springs are best avoided as they go wrong so fast.

Thats what I thought !,,.....it will help for an engine with "issues" but dangerous!!

What about if I have an external cooler with oil filter next to gearbox and the engine(1641 single port) is not "fresh" in terms of I don't hear any "noises" ie it runs well without issues yet

I want to add a cooler possibly for peace of mind,.........what say you

An external oil cooler just seems a bit over the top in my opinion. It's just more pipes and things that can leak and go wrong. The standard doghouse cooler combined with a better oil as suggested here should be enough to keep your engine happy.

If you want peace of mind, get yourself a new cooler without any damaged fins, as well as the "hoover bit" tinware, seal off the cooler properly over the top and around it so all air moves through the cooler and then get the two lower cylinder tin plates that are usually thrown out because they are difficult to fit and "how much can they really do?". Seal your engine bay properly, remove the heater boxes and fit J-pipes.
With the right oil and the right pump, this will keep things nice and cool.

Make sure you oil light works when you switch on you ignition, but before you start,

Now you know your oil pressure light is working.

So now run the car hot, and let it idle, if your oil light does not come on, then your oil pressure is good.

Or get a pressure gauge and fit it to your oil switch hole with a "T"so you can refit the oil light switch.

If oil pressure is right with hot engine.

then rest easy, job done....

Just put in thicker oil and let sleeping dogs lie.
