RSK 718 replica

Hi guys.

I recently bought a Spyder RSK shell without the floorpan. Lucky, the seller also gave me the glass front screen with chrome trim as well.
I bought a 75 bug to use as a source for the floorpan and other bits and bobs.
I need to shorten the chassis so the shell can fit onto the floorpan but Im not sure by how much is should shorten it and where to make the cut.
I plan to cut the tunnel section in a 'Z' shape to maximise strength. Please advise me on the way forward to shorten the donor chassis.
The rear section is supposed to be hinged to a frame, Im just not sure how its done.
Any advice or comments is welcome and I would really want to get this project started.
Thank in advance. Will be posting pics soon

Get in contact with Garth Waberski of Universal products. They make them and can tell you where, and how much to cut off the chassis.

regards

Alan

From memory I think it is 381mm that needs to be removed.
when I was doing my RSK I hinged the rear section from the rear of the seat section, this is not the proper way I know but I felt it gave me easier access to the motor and gearbox, I then made "uprights" which I bolted to the axel tubes and spring plates to keep the rear in place.
unfortunately I don't have pics, but if you can find my build thread it may still be there.

Hi guys.Just an update of the RSK build. The chassis was shortened and painted and all suspension parts were refurbished and brake lines and components renewed. Thereafter, the body was bolts to the chassis and properly sealed to ensure a waterproof fit. The steering wheel is a bit of a headache cos its position is limiting leg room and it interferes with the gear lever. Im thinking getting a 300mm steering wheel and a much shorter gear lever. Please advise me if thats wise or not. Seats is another headache cos no standard seat fits into the tiny space due to the fibreglass body encroaching into the seating space. Any ideas will be appreciated. I have two fibreglass speedboat seats which I can modify as well.
The gearbox is serviced and painted but still stock. I fitted a aircooled 1776cc turbo with a full custom exhaust system which extends from the engine back to the chassis up to the firewall where a 911 muffler deadens the noise and back down pass the gearbox under the right side head to exit the body at the rear. So its a very quiet car. Stock brakes at the moment but planning to fit discs upfront later. Rear clamshell body hinges from the middle of the car to ease accessiblity. I used aluminium window hinges to get this right. A rigid cage was built around the engine to protect against rear end collisions and the same to the front section beyond the tubular frame of the suspension torsion bar. Porsche replica alloy wheels all round with 195/55/15 at the back and 195/50/15 in front. Please feel free to comment or advise on any of the content of the feedback.
