your type 4 seats should be more comfortable then Beetle seats, from my experience.
Just have them re-upholstered with extra foam

would not know, as as far as I know the 412 seats are wider, so the rails would be too.

My front seats are non standard and although in great condition do not fit the look I am working on. Variant seats are difficult to find..

well in that case, you can take the rails off the existing seats and fit them onto the new beetle seats.
You may have to bend the leg tubes to the right width or weld a flat bar to the bottom 1st,

What I do know is that a ghia pan and beetle pan is not the same,...ghia is apparently the same as Type 3 pan.
I measured ONLY after I off loaded a beetle pan at home !!!
....lesson was short but expensive !. The ghia that required this pan has since been moved on !
