Hi guys,

I'm quite new to the Western Cape and I'm looking to do some rust repairs on my '77 Bay window bus. It doesn't have much rust to start off with and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't have the budget to take it for a respray but I also don't want the rust getting any worse. Its just got a little around the windows etc. Is there something I can spray over it? What do you guys do?

Rust around the windows usually means worse rust under the rubber and in the window channel. Window needs to come out for proper repairs.

If you can access under the rusted area (where the real rust is hiding) you can spray some Techtyl liquid wax, this is a thin liquid wax that creeps in everywhere and then dries to a sticky wax, this should at least slow down the process. Do this only with the area completely dry.
Keeping the vehicle out of the rain as much as possible, especially in the Cape will also slow down the rust until a proper repair can be done

As said there is no short cut fix to rust.

Yes you can slow it down, but you have to seal off both sides to stop air getting to it.

I would use a good rust converter and spray it in with a plastic spray bottle

( not a steel pump bottle or spray gun as this would neutralize the converter.)

Then when dry wipe off the overspill and coat with a good number of clear coat's.

It must be done from both sides or you wast your time and money.
