Jaaaa! True comments...........maintaining on old car....is not exciting nor "news worthy" to my opinion,.....me thinks!

But don't despair,.....i think after George the forum should pick up,...not?

Currently messing around with CAD ( cardboard aided designing) designs for some gauges,... but otherwise quite and hot !

I realized over the weekend that I sometimes just get stuck in and don't take any noteworthy pics while I am busty working.
I was busy polishing up an old singer hand operated sewing machine for the wife for Valentines day, and had so little time that I did a bunch of things and only took 1 picture. Now, I can't even remember what it looked like before I started. So stupid
fig wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2020 11:30 am... I used to repost ACVW ads from gumtree here. I know a few people responded promptly to ads and scored bargains as a result, which made it worthwhile for me.
I have to say that I miss this the most since I joined. Was always an easy source of info of whats available. But, work pays the bills
sean wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2020 11:55 amI don't really post much either these days as my trip reports didn't seem to interest others much anymore.
I have to confess my guilt here. I read it and don't always comment.
BUT! I have to say that it makes me excited to get my bus up and running...
Merlin wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2020 6:53 pmSignificant and prologed politics played out many years ago; administered by a then devout clique. This brought about a negative reputation for the forum and drove away a lot of the regulars; many permanently, to various ends. In my opinion, this forum never truly recovered following that period.
This exact thing divided many forums and sparked my unhappy members due to forum warriors and keyboard cowboys!
Then the really knowledgeable and valuable members leave and the wind bags stay and troll everything. Sad but true.

True but surely we can now move on from that?
acpaterson wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2020 6:39 am My Bus Winston is classified as a modified car by the purists, so, I don't share anything related to him because of this.
I have heard this before where guys say this is a forum for purists and a Bus forum only and without taking you on, I feel this holds no water. I have witnessed a face to face encounter between Tony and Sean, both at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to originality and I promise you, it was quite a friendly event

Thanks for the valuable input so far guys :hangloose:

The damage is done. Most of the stalwarts wrote the forum off, never to return. As life, connections and commuications shifted, the forum was largely made redundant.

I don't know about the forum's past, but I find great value in it. I only joined recently, did a quick project, and I am looking keenly for the next one.

The threads are very informative and I properly enjoy reading them.

I still visit often but find it quiet too. Don't have facebook and the other stuff so still prefer the forum. My project thread will be updated soon as I am busy with some new additions.

I do contribute if I can add something positive or usefull but I am no guru.

I have been out of the ACVW circles for a few years after selling my Beetle. Once you've driven one I guess they will always stay your first love. I have recently bought the '78 SP and my wife fell in love with the car so much, she also wanted one, so I bought her a '63 Beetle...still on it's way, so pictures will follow. I have returned to the forum recently and can only agree with the comments...there are far less posts that what I am used to. Having said that, there are still some very good posts, some fantastic projects happening and good advice given if needed. I will rather see one good post a day that 10 000 about nonsense. Still a very good forum.
Keep the Aircooled spirit alive.

My wife drove my buggy for the first time the other day, (I've had it for 10 years) she has never driven any of my air-cooleds and guess what, she wants one and she wants to drive my Beetle and Ghia too. Never let your partners drive your cars, it could be very costly.
