AS is a replacement Case, the only way to really know what size engine you have is to remove one head and measure bore and stroke.

Not a fundi but here goes
1 - type 1 (beetle)
1- sedan
1- 1971
2- means manufactured post 1970
301144- allocated chassis sequence number
Vehicle manufactured in Oct 1970 which would make it a 1971 production year

beetle is a sedan, this means car, as in not truck, or commercial.

The second 1 says it is a sedan and not a convertible... so first 1 says it’s a beetle and second 1 it is a beetle sedan, not convertible or station wagon or fastback ( not that there was other kinds of beetles but those codes applicable to type 3 and 4 for example)

Weber carbs were never fitted as standard on ACVWs.
