Yes ...

Is your TDC mark correct ??

If so, unplug your vacuum pipe from your carb

Mark 30 Deg. on your pulley

Start the car, rev to 3000 RPM and set your timing light to 30 Deg.

Most of us will set at 28 Deg. as this allows for play and heavy loading so you do not get ping.

Do not forget to plug in your vacuum pipe when done.

Align the relevant timing mark on the pulley, with the joint between the two case halves.

But isn't the mark on the pulley 7 and half where all is saying it must be 25-30 deg

The dimple is zero
Measure diameter of pulley and calculate where 28 is and mark the pulley there

Just to recap.

Your TDC dimple is correct this must line up with the split in the cashing.

Set the timing to line up with your 28Deg. after removing your vacuum on your dizzy

Refit the vacuum.

The Knock is as if someone is knocking two solid shifters together in the engine bay

Here is a link to hear it.

Bit more hollow then tappets in my opinion.

You will not hear it on a flat road without giving gas but you will hear it in high gear going up a hill during acceleration.

will go away the minute you leave the gas peddle

Hope this helps

PS;-
The 7.5 mark is the 800rpm timing mark, but as most engines have been modified, you will not know if your 800rpm timing is correct.
So set on 28Deg. and then check if 7.5 is still correct for your engine.

Then you will know in future.
