Hello all you buggists out there. I have been wanting to fit a rev counter to my buggy for a while. I was given one with the following connections on
the back. -12 -6 15 and then a plus sign. Can anyone tell me how to connect it.? would be appreciated.

Hi. Does it say VDO on the front face?

If you running two wires to the back

you will place the 15 on the 15 or - (negative) of the coil. With the wire between coil and dissy

The + (positive) on the + of the coil

The -12 to the body (ground) of the car.

IF

You using a single wire to the back coil;-

You take the + to the ignition "ON" side of your ignition

The -12 to the body of the car

The 15 on the 15 or - (Negative) of the coil. With the wire between coil and dissy

15 is switched live, ie live with ignition on, so + side of the coil. 1 is for - side of coil, which is connected to the distributor.

We are talking here of his unit as per the connections on the back of the rev counter.

-12 is your ground ( not using -6 as this is a 12 volt car)
+ is your supply to the unit and to the coil from ignition key

15 is the trigger to receive impulses from the ignition points/ electronic unit to work out the RPM.

Just to help out.

- 12 is Ground
+ is your Ignition Live (15) coming from the fuse box that would run to the 15 on the coil. You need to cut the wire after the fuse and connect it to this terminal.
15 is for the other side of the wire that you cut and continues to the coil.

IE. The Rev Counter receives its Pulse Signal by intercepting the 15 wire that runs to the coil.
