Re: Type 3 chrome locking strip
On the type 3 I have found it the best to fit the rubber to the window WITH OUT any lubricant, or it will keep climbing off when you try fit it.
Then you fit the chrome strip with all the joint pieces, no lubrication
Now spray your rope and the rubbers grove that fits over the body with silicon spray
DO NOT USE Dishwasher soap. Has salt in it and your frame will start rusting.
You can also lightly coat the car body edge, then have two guys push the window in place as hard as they can
You start pulling the rope from inside, go up both sides so the window can seat itself as you go.
Starting center bottom and making sure the lip goes over the body as you go.
In this way gravity will work with you.
Do not let the guys hit the window, just press hard and constant.
If you hit the window it will crack.

Shooo
Thanks for the detailed advice. Really appreciated.
Do you know of someone in Cape town that can install the windscreen for me?
I have had 2 guys so far and none of them are able to install the chrome. They keep saying the aftermarket rubber is too tight.

Re: Type 3 chrome locking strip
PG glass say they can fit any glass, not so sure about that, but if you do it your self,
make sure the rubber lays on the brick paving the best part of the morning and fit the glass after two in the sun shine, this will keep your rubber flexible,
I have not liked the local type 3 rubber as I managed to brake not only the front screen but also the back screen before I worked out the rubber is too hard.
Then I ordered the Germany rubber via https://vwispwest.com/
Worked right 1st time, and it fits the car like a glove,
Good luck with it and do not brake the glass. this happens easy.

Re: Type 3 chrome locking strip
If you bought ProAuto Rubber (PAR) windscreen rubber, you’ll have a terrible time getting the beading to stay put. The groove that is supposed to hold the beading doesn’t have enough grip, so it will keep on popping out. If you manage to get the beading in, try taping it in place.
I found other non-PAR aftermarket rubbers like Autostyle’s to be more suitable and softer. Even professional windscreen installers might struggle with PAR rubbers.
