Carbs

Hey guys. I recently made a post about fuel consumption. Someone alerted me to the fact that the junk aftermarket carb I have on is notorious for over-fueling. My beetle was originally a 1300 TP but was rebored by the previous owner to be a 1600TP. I have decided to revert back to the original solex 34 pict 3 carb which I have purchased through facebook as the one that came on my car is buggerd. I would like to know what the ideal jet size would be for a solex 34 pict 3 carb in order to achieve the best fuel economy. I'm not too bothered about performance as I didn't buy a 52-year-old car to go fast. I am going to rebuild the carb as i want it to have fresh seals and such.

Hi Carl
You have not stipulated if your intake manifold was changed to a 1600. Have you been fitting the 34PICT carb with an adapter plate? The 34PICT carb will not fit directly onto a 1300 TP manifold.

Hey sean when i bought the car it had a 34 pict 3 carb which fit perfectly flush with the manifold. However i never checked the bore of the manifold. Is that something i should do?

If you bought a Standard VW carb as 2nd hand, it would have the right jets in it.
To change jets just to reduce fuel consumption is not the right way to go.
You need to give more details on what you have and how she runs for anybody to made the correct recommendations.
Post photos of car, wheels engine and close up where you can
this will help.
