According to Dave Rowley the way to go with your shocks if you drop your front suspension is to use Austin Mini shocks. Any comments on this??

I use shortened KYB shocks on my beetle. Works like a charm and they do not bottom out. The ride quality it a bit crappy, but who cares when you want great handling

This is true...Can you list the various ways of dropping your suspension for the new people on the forum....

You can also use Ford Cortina Rear shocks, I am sure the mini ones will work but need a slight modification is required as the dia of the sleeve where the bushing sits is not quite the same diam.

On link pin front suspensions,do you remove the endstop between the two arms or just weld it into a different position?Once saw a picture where someone welded a splined shaft piece there to have adjustable endstop as well.

With my 67 balljoint suspension,i cut the centre sections (one at a time),repositioned them for 4 cm drop,tack welded them and had it mig welded.Balljoint suspensions doesnt have the endstop arm between the two arms.Shocks are different from linkpin type. Manual shows a rubber at the top of the shock for endstop,mine never had it.Took the old shock to a big shock place,found a shorter one there. Think it was for the rear of an old 1100 Colt.(balljoint susp. use different shocks than linkpin)

Allso lowered the rear by 4cm.(Turning the torsionbars in the normal way).Havent had touble with balljoints.Can still go over moderate speedhumps at 60kmh (no passengers in car) to the amazement of new car drivers.Found that it is more stable in crosswinds.
Did this with my daily driver some 15 years ago and stil happy with it.
However wont recommend it if you often have passengers,sometimes the exhaust scrapes on the road after a bump, especially if the passengers are fat...

Type threes are the easiest to lower in front,just turn the splines.

I completely removed my bump stops.

The biggest mod I did on my front suspension is removing the link pins. We then installed a set of rose joints that is connected to the stub axle, so the camber can be set properly now.

Calooker you are correct. You need to do this mod by having "ProAuto Rubber" supply you with the correct bushing for the bottom mount.
