Aircooled VW South Africa

Hi guys, as you might have noticed it seems to be raining a lot these days. Now that is fine in a semi desert like RSA, but gets to be a problem when your 63 6volt beetle wipers over performs when accelerating! I see at the cip1 website they have a voltage drop resistor from 12v to 6v. Not too expensive, but double the price when shipping gets involved! Do any of you guys know where to get one in SA? Does this actually work or will it set the car on fire? Thanks! Really want to drive around in the rain as raindrops on the beetle roof sounds different from any other car I have! haha!

Thanks a milljoen! Any idea on what kinda watt I should look at? There seems to be great variations from 1 to 25W. Communica quoted me on a 10 Watt Aluminium body for R18.95.... so not that expensive, but i do not want to fry my Electrics..

any resistor you use will reduce the voltage across the wipers - ideally you would want a resistor that matches the impedence of the motor, so the voltage is shared across the two. to do it properly, you need to measyure the current draw and calc the resistance of the motor..
From a little look on the samba, the 25w one (caters for 2 amps) will work.

I spoke to Lucky.He says that a 25w will be suffiient and will do the job.

Thanks guys, as always your advise is appreciated. i got a quote on a 25 Watt 2.2 ohm aluminium body resistor of R22.51. As soon as i get this and install i will let you guys know the outcome. Might help some boykies with the same issue.

Be sure to initiate the job by first adding new chrome accessories, filling the oil sump, and fiddling with the twin carbs...only then can you access the fuel pump before accessing the electrical system.

You'll know if you've done it right...there'll be a spark or two.

pull it out quckly if it starts smoking..
